Apple is spending $1.2 million to fix glass panels at its Pioneer Place retail location, at 450 S.W. Yamhill St.
A company spokesperson confirmed there was an ongoing project to alter the building, which was damaged last year in an act of 鈥渧andalism,鈥 but declined to further comment.
Earlier this month, the Bureau of Development Services issued 鈥淧ioneer Place Limited Partnership鈥 of Chicago a $1.2 million permit to remove and replace three glass panels on the exterior facade.
The contractor, Hoffman Construction, also declined to comment.
The Portland Police Bureau has only one case on file for the past 12 months involving damage to the building 鈥 a man experiencing 鈥渕edical issues鈥 pushing open the door with such force it hit the backstop and shattered. No arrest was made following the incident, according to Portland Police spokesman Sgt. Greg Stewart.
The 20-foot-tall glass box building was designed by Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania-based Bohlin Cywinski Jackson.
