The city bureau overseeing development has been growing quickly, in concert with the expansion in building activity. Now the Bureau of Development Services proposes to add 12 people to its staff.
BDS spokesman Ross Caron said the bureau will bring its request before the City Council by the end of next month.
Staffing at the department keeps about level with development activity, which has grown by double-digit increases since 2010.
鈥淚t’s as high as it’s been in the past few decades,鈥 Caron said.
BDS added 72 staff members from July 2015 to July 2016. In that time, permit activity has increased 15 percent. So far this year, the city’s zoning hotline has received an average of 1,000 calls per month, while the BDS permit center at 1900 S.W. Fourth Ave. has gotten around 4,300 visitors per month.
