People looking to learn more about cross-laminated timber will have a couple of opportunities next week. First, the Oregon Mass Timber Summit will be hosted by Gov. Kate Brown at the Leftbank Annex on Monday. Then the Mass Timber Conference will take place at the Oregon Convention Center on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Cross-laminated timber (CLT) is an engineered wood building system with exceptional strength, dimensional stability and rigidity. It has become an increasingly popular construction material for architects and builders.

The Oregon Mass Timber Summit () will feature a day of speeches from officials such as Brown, SRG principal Kent Duffy, Lever Architecture founding principal Thomas Robinson and others. Also, professors and engineers will discuss the advantages and drawbacks of CLT.

The Mass Timber Conference () will draw building professionals from around the world who work with CLT. Tracks will focus on the environment, sustainability and mass timber supply. The conference will also look at the architecture and engineering of CLT use.

Scheduled speakers will include world-renowned architects, including Andrew Waugh of London-based Waugh Thistleton Architects. People from 21 countries, 19 universities and more than 100 companies are expected to attend.
