The city of Portland’s Bureau of Development Services will host eight-hour classes in May to educate landlords how to settle disputes and spot problem tenants.

More than 19,600 Portland-area property owners and managers have participated in the one-day program since 1989, according to the bureau.

Topics include licensing and taxes, required lead paint disclosure, techniques for screening tenant applications and dealing with problem tenants.

Participation is free, but purchase of a $20 booklet at the class is suggested.

The classes will be held on May 12 at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center, May 13 at Providence Portland Medical Center, and May 22 and 24 at Adventist Medical Center. Sign-in begins at 8 a.m. each day, and classes begin at 8:30 a.m.
