Since the coronavirus pandemic started, JE Dunn has focused on protecting its employees. One person in particular, John McKenzie, safety manager for JE Dunn鈥檚 Northwest Division, has been instrumental in these efforts.

鈥淛ohn McKenzie fosters a culture of safety excellence for JE Dunn employees, trade partners, and owners,鈥� the company said. 鈥淗e develops company safety plans and works closely with upper management and field personnel to create safe working conditions for our crews.鈥�

Oregon was one of the first states in the country affected by stay-at-home orders. Since that time, JE Dunn has held daily online meetings with dozens of safety professionals to distribute information about its construction projects. The company has also closely followed guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on best practices for ensuring a safe workplace.

Under McKenzie鈥檚 leadership, JE Dunn implemented temperature monitoring at all of its projects in Oregon.

鈥淲e are very fortunate to have John on our team,鈥� said Darin Stegemoller, who leads JE Dunn鈥檚 Northwest Division. 鈥淛ohn is not only passionate about safety, but deeply cares about each person on site, ensuring they have a safe work environment to start their day and are able to return home at the end of the day. This approach creates a team environment where everyone genuinely looks after the well-being of each other.鈥�

Due to the pandemic, JE Dunn had to update its entire safety plan. In addition, the company has made changes to site-specific safety plans due to the high risks of contracting the virus, since all of the company鈥檚 projects are located in densely populated areas.

鈥淏y implementing a 鈥榳ork from home鈥� policy, we reduced the number of onsite employees by 70 percent on all projects and have continued delivering a quality product to our clients,鈥� the company said.
