McMinnville High School received a major renovation and expansion that included new flooring and interior paint, mechanical upgrades, and an updated cafeteria and fire alarm system. The 120,000 square feet of new construction consisted of a new Career Technical Center (CTC), state-of-the-art gymnasium and a new field house.
The project involved connecting a street corridor between the existing school and the new building. The school now features an Activities Lobby, which is an open area where daily school activities are displayed on monitors and connects to the gym and concession area.
The project team also converted an existing commons area to a new library space centrally located at the school鈥檚 old wing hub. The new gym space includes an auxiliary basketball and volleyball court and a cantilevered running track above the main gym. The CTC building will offer training in metal fabrication.
Among the project鈥檚 challenges, new construction took place in the middle of the existing campus and students were just behind the wall from the active site. Planning was crucial to ensure disruption was kept to a minimum and students and faculty were safe. A comprehensive signage program and constant communications with school staff made the project possible.
