… and the MCIP legacy will continue
NAMC-OR鈥檚 merger with the Metropolitan Contractor Improvement Partnership (MCIP) was completed in October and will enhance NAMC-OR鈥檚 delivery of services, making it a more effective and efficient organization serving a variety of needs to its members.

MCIP, NAMC-OR鈥檚 technical assistance arm for over a decade, provided a solid foundation of training for many BIPOC contractors and other service providers. John Jackley, founder and CEO of Advanced Technology Communications and a founding member of MCIP, said the organization directly assisted more than 2,000 MBE construction companies with the support of Meyer Memorial Trust, The Collins Foundation and most public agencies in the region.

鈥淏y merging the two organizations, we鈥檙e going to leverage NAMC鈥檚 economic and political expertise to help more MBE businesses,鈥� he said. 鈥淲e鈥檙e not two completely separate organizations trying something new. We have always worked hand in glove together and our offices are next door to each other, so the transition will be seamless.鈥�

NAMC-OR Executive Director Nate McCoy noted that the organization will build on the goal of sustaining a more diverse workforce through listening sessions on racism in the industry and offering a forum for storytelling so members and other stakeholders can communicate better and address challenges together.

鈥淣ow that we鈥檝e merged MCIP into NAMC, we鈥檝e been working diligently to enhance our NAMC University training programs and continue to build a powerful advocacy and accountability voice for BIPOC contractors in the community,鈥� he said. 鈥淗ow we do that is by continuing MCIP鈥檚 legacy as NAMC鈥檚 training arm in building contractors while the industry builds projects. We will continue enhancing the training offerings we have and build capacity to achieve contracting opportunities with our members.鈥�

McCoy added that NAMC-OR will expand operations into MCIP鈥檚 office space to continue to provide technical assistance trainings and partner with support businesses that are not directly related to construction, such as legal firms, accounting firms and financial institutions.

鈥淲e will tackle how to be a good business as well as how to be a good contractor,鈥� he said, 鈥淥ur members and partners should look for more exciting updates in the new year.鈥�
