The Oregon Senate has confirmed Julie Smitherman’s first-term appointment to the Oregon Water Resources Commission as a representative of the Southwest Region. The commission is a seven-member citizen panel that sets statewide water resources policy and oversees the work of the Water Resources Department. Members are unpaid volunteers that serve four-year terms. Smitherman is the water resources coordinator for the Medford Water Commission. She has worked in the municipal drinking water industry for more than 12 years. Smitherman has a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, with a geology concentration, from Southern Oregon University.
