Partner Spotlight: Shiels Obletz Johnsen, Inc.

PrintWith a recent transition to new ownership that made Shiels Obletz Johnsen a COBID-certified MBE, the company is doubling down on its efforts to increase diversity in the development projects it helps manage.

鈥淭he work NAMC-Oregon does is vitally important to diversifying the construction industry, eliminating racism and building an equitable economy, and SOJ wants to be a partner in that effort,鈥 said Francesca Gambetti, managing director and partner.

SOJ has offices in Portland and Seattle and, over the past 30 years, has successfully guided numerous public and private development projects from concept through construction. Its work includes new construction, renovation and historic preservation and its award-winning projects feature innovative green building elements, unique public-private partnerships, a diverse mix of uses and complex funding packages.

The company is 62 percent women- and minority-owned, and Gambetti said SOJ supports NAMC-Oregon鈥檚 mission by working in collaboration with its clients and project teams to maximize participation by DMWESB firms.

鈥淣AMC-Oregon always plays an important role in the projects we work on by serving as a resource to increase exposure of bid opportunities and supporting minority firms in pursuit of these opportunities,鈥 she said.

Gambetti noted that SOJ鈥檚 partnership with NAMC-Oregon helps the company expand its networks and build relationships with more minority-owned firms. It also strengthens SOJ鈥檚 advocacy work in the community.

鈥淭here is much work to be done in the pursuit of racial justice and equality. We value NAMC-Oregon鈥檚 leadership and our partnership,鈥 she said.
