Executive director of the Building Industry Association of Clark County

Avaly Scarpelli is credited with bringing the Building Industry Association of Clark County out of a troubled financial situation and stabilizing the association following the Great Recession. Under her leadership, the association鈥檚 signature home show, NW Natural Parade of Homes, has continued to gain popularity with the general public.

Her favorite aspect of her work is that every day is different. At the same time, however, government regulation continues to threaten housing affordability and the viability of small businesses, she said.

Scarpelli鈥檚 other noteworthy accomplishments include keeping all staff during the COVID-19 pandemic, awarding of a Small Business Outreach contract through Washington鈥檚 Labor and Industries, and introducing new events such as Chef, Hop & Vine and a virtual edition of the Remodeled Homes Tour.

As a mentor, Scarpelli enjoys passing along knowledge and modeling a 鈥溾�榙o what you say you鈥檙e going to do鈥� work ethic. I also think it鈥檚 important to set a good example of perseverance and maintaining a sense of calm and clarity during challenging situations.鈥澛犅�

Scarpelli serves as a committee member of the Construction Tech Advisory Committee for Cascadia Technical Academy, a member of the Vancouver Public Schools鈥� Management Task Force, a board member of the Nonprofit Network of Southwest Washington, and a member of the Construction Safety and Health Committee for the National Association of Home Builders.

In addition, Scarpelli is a board member for the Responsible Growth Forum and Identity Clark County and serves on the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce Executive Women鈥檚 Council.
