Chandra Robinson leads transformative community projects in the Albina neighborhood and greater North Portland. These include Meyer Memorial Trust鈥檚 headquarters, a national model for equity-centered design and the first Oregon building to receive LEED v4 Platinum certification. The Meyer project also is one of the first major structures built using mass plywood panels.

Her current projects include the redevelopment of Dekum Court, a 187-unit affordable housing community in the Concordia neighborhood, and a new affordable housing development and theater that will be the first built project in the Albina Vision. Robinson is part of a team selected to advance the community vision for the Williams and Russell project. These are examples that speak to her interest in community-led design that advances social justice and unlocks opportunities for underrepresented communities.

鈥淗istorically, Black folks and other people of color have not been consulted, informed or considered in spaces that were designed for them. Through community interaction, the community is able to authentically represent themselves,鈥 she said. 鈥淎s a woman of color in architecture I am one of the underrepresented, which is why it鈥檚 important to me to be visible and encourage young people of color to pursue careers in design and construction.鈥澛

Robinson is involved in several community organizations and mentorship programs. She is a member of the Portland Design Commission; a founding board member and treasurer of the National Organization for Minority Architects鈥 Portland chapter; a volunteer with Your Street, Your Voice; and an advisory board member of Hip Hop Architecture Camp.
