Kelly Nelson credits her mom with being the best mentor she could ask for. She started out as a framer, worked her way up to foreman and eventually owned her own small construction business.

When Nelson graduated from Oregon State University in 1998, there was only one other woman in her Construction Engineering Management program. She started out as an estimator and now holds the longest tenure for a female project manager at Lewis with 16 years.

Some of her achievements include managing construction of the Kruse Way tenant improvement program, which included more than 20 buildings over five years.

She managed the Stoel Rives tenant improvement project, the largest Lewis has done in Portland, which achieved LEED Platinum certification and a Green Globe rating.

One of the founding members of the Lewis Community Outreach Committee, Nelson has participated in more than 45 outreach events that include Lift Urban food drives, Playworks fundraisers, REACH workdays and blood drives.

鈥淔or me, community enrichment has always been a cornerstone of my identity, both at work and in my personal life. My motivation for being so involved with my community comes from knowing what it means to be truly in need and knowing just how meaningful it is to receive help when it鈥檚 needed,鈥 she said.

Nelson is closely involved in Lewis鈥 Pass the Torch mentorship program and the Women鈥檚 Development Group, where she mentors young women and guides them through the construction industry.
