Director of Employee & Client Experience at Pence Construction
In the past two years, Shannon Parker has been instrumental in landing $350 million in work for Pence, either in construction or preconstruction. Her accomplishments include a major rebrand for the company, coordinating its move from two separate locations in Portland and Salem to its Lake Oswego headquarters, and establishing its new Employee & Client Experience department.
Perhaps one of her most rewarding achievements, however, was helping to establish and then chairing Pence鈥檚 Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee. She also assisted in crafting the company鈥檚 DEI Plan and is responsible for its implementation. Professionally, it鈥檚 important for her to promote the success of women and underrepresented populations in the industry.
鈥淧ersonally, I have a son who experiences physical disability. He uses a wheelchair for most of our public-facing lives and my eyes have been opened wide to the inequities that exist in our world,鈥 she said. 鈥淭he irony is that when we build spaces for people with disabilities to be included, those spaces are usually better for everyone. DEI does that. It focuses on making things better for marginalized people, which ultimately, is better for all of us.鈥
During the 2020 wildfires, Parker created resources and a communication platform for Pence employees during evacuations while evacuating her own family to safety. She volunteered for the Santiam Fire Relief efforts, which involved collecting and distributing hygiene items and clothing to survivors. In addition, she has volunteered for Salem-based Center for Hope and Safety as a crisis hotline advocate.
