Legislators have confirmed Barbara Boyer as Gov. Kate Brown’s recommendation for the Land Conservation and Development Commission. Boyer’s term begins immediately. Her first commission meeting will be in February 2022.

A McMinnville-area farmer, Boyer is chair of the state’s Soil and Water Conservation Commission and in that role also serves on the Oregon Board of Agriculture, currently as chair.

Boyer has direct experience with the land use system and LCDC as well. She served on a rulemaking advisory committee for the state’s rules for solar energy facilities on agricultural resource land, and in her role with the Yamhill Soil and Water Conservation District, reviewed land use applications with respect to impact on natural systems.

Boyer graduated from the University of Connecticut with a degree in plant science and took over her family’s farm operations in 1999. She and her husband farmed more than 1,000 acres and created two businesses from their farm – Gourmet Hay and a small community supported agriculture operation. In 2000, Boyer co-founded the McMinnville Farmers’ Market and is a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity.

Boyer joins six other LCDC commissioners who, assisted by the department, adopt and update state land-use goals and implementing rules, assure local plan compliance with the goals, coordinate state and local planning, and oversee the coastal zone management program.
