The modernization of Benson Polytechnic plans to renovate and seismically improve the century-old historic buildings. As part of the Portland International Airports transformative projects, PDX Next, a $91 million permit was issued for the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and demolition work related to the main Terminal Core redevelopment project. The primary TCORE project calls for completely remodeling the Terminal Core, installing a new 9-acre large-span roofing system of the entire terminal core complex, and building a 150-foot multi-floor addition between Concourses C and D.

The permit covers associated site work for the four-block construction site that includes Block 42.

A commercial building permit was issued for Fremont Place, a new 17-story multifamily building on Naito Parkway in Portland. The building will consist of 236 residential units and have retail spaces on the first floor. The permit covers associated site work.

Across from Fremont Place, building permits were issued for Holden of Pearl, an independent senior living community. The planned 18-story structure holds 140 units and has one below-grade level of parking for 143-stalls. The height of the tower consists of a 13-story building over a four-story podium.

A permit was issued for Pop Block’s newest development – Splash Apartments. The eight-story, 219-unit development in the Kerns neighborhood sits on the same parcel of the prominent, 59-year-old bowstring-truss Pavilion Building. Plans call for the apartment structure to have two wings in a perpendicular layout, connected via seven sky bridges. There will be 13,000 square feet of retail space and approximately 200 parking spaces on the ground level. The site will also gain a woonerf (a Dutch-style multimodal street) extension of Northeast Pacific Street.

In August, commercial building permits were issued for the highly anticipated Alamo Manhattan Blocks, also known as “Willamette Blocks.” Block 42, this sister site to Block 41, will stand six stories high and accommodate 232 apartment units with two levels of below-grade parking. In addition, the mixed-use development will have commercial retail spaces on the ground floor.
