A nearly $2.75 million face-lift is in store for Stoneridge Park in east Tualatin. After work takes place to bring to life Shapiro Didway鈥檚 design, the 0.23-acre 鈥減ocket park鈥 will be unrecognizable from its existing basis.

The park, at 19489 S.W. 68th Ave., is nestled among homes in a neighborhood largely underserved recreationally. Currently, the park has a neglected and fatigued feel to it, Shapiro Didway Associate Jessel Champoux said, but that will soon change.

The redesign calls for a new playground and splash pad for kids, a rebuilt grass play area and a multiuse sports court. Also, a new mural will be painted across the park鈥檚 retaining wall.

More than 750 residents participated in the design process. Near the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic Shapiro Didway and the city of Tualatin launched a 鈥淪panish-first鈥 outreach campaign. Adults and children in the neighborhood drew pictures and completed worksheets and surveys to select their preferred park elements.

Every feature in the park鈥檚 redesign was selected by the community, Champoux said.

The project is part of Tualatin鈥檚 2030 Vision plan and the Parks and Recreation Department鈥檚 master plan. The neighborhood holding Stoneridge Park was prioritized highly to receive attention, and park improvements were identified as a key element.

鈥淏y connecting with the community, we produced an interesting, compelling design through this public engagement process,鈥 Tualatin Parks and Recreation Director Ross Hoover stated.

Along with the new playground, the park will gain better seating, picnic tables, lighting and access to the Rolling Hills Apartments nearby; park easements are being finalized to provide that access. Then the project team will advance to construction permitting.
