Las Adelitas is a mixed-use, affordable housing development in Northeast Portland鈥檚 Cully neighborhood that marks the community鈥檚 largest redevelopment. Hacienda CDC is developing the project to not only create jobs and provide housing and community spaces, but also to support local economic growth and transform an area once known for illegal activities into a catalyst development.

Aptly named after feminist Mexican revolutionaries, Las Adelitas will be a four-story building housing 142 living units, a central outdoor plaza, community and commercial space, and a classroom for Hacienda鈥檚 Portland Ni帽os program. The Portland Ni帽os program strives to reduce academic and health disparities among Latino children by providing support to families.

One of the key goals of the Las Adelitas project was to achieve COBID participation higher than 20 percent.

鈥淲ith an extensive proactive approach to our outreach efforts and leveraging long-term partnerships with regional COBID trade groups and associations 鈥� we have exceeded that goal with a 30.05 percent COBID participation rate,鈥� LMC Construction stated.

In addition, 80 percent of the field staff are members of traditionally underrepresented groups, including women and racial and ethnic minority groups. In partnership with Hacienda, Verde and LMC Construction are providing mentoring and training opportunities to local members of the Hispanic community.

With aspirations of expanding on its ability to manage future projects, Verde collaborated with LMC Construction on an approach that allowed Verde to assist in the selection process of the subcontractor that will install the solar panel system at Las Adelitas.

Saulo Quezada, Verde foreman intern, is the lead contact for the solar panel installation. Under the guidance and mentorship of LMC Superintendent Bob Kantola, Quezada has learned how to review project plans, operate project management software and scheduling. These skills enable foremen and forewomen to better visualize how project pieces come together as a whole.
