The Oregon State University Board of Trustees has approved more than $100 million for projects, including development of a 24-acre site in Central Oregon.
The board鈥檚 Finance & Administration Committee late last month advanced two projects to the design phase: a $51 million renovation of Withycombe Hall on the Corvallis campus and the $34 million development of land for the proposed Innovation District at OSU-Cascades in Bend.
More immediate expenditures approved by the board were: $13.75 million to renovate Gilkey Hall in Corvallis and $7.3 million to construct a 1,200-seat, partially covered grandstand with a press box at the Whyte Track and Field Center.
The Withycombe Hall renovation would include construction of a new dairy processing pilot plant and a new wine processing plant 鈥 as well as addition of retail space for Beaver Classic cheese, ice cream and meat sales. The theater and educational program space within Withycombe Hall will be relocated to the 53,400-square-foot Arts and Education Complex under construction on the Corvallis campus.
The proposed Innovation District would be a university academic and innovation space. At full capacity it would include roughly 500,000 square feet of performing arts spaces, housing and outdoor gathering areas, and space for private businesses such as office users, restaurateurs and retailers.
Phase one of the project calls for transforming approximately eight acres of OSU-Cascades land that previously was used as a Deschutes County landfill. Some of the land development costs would be paid via $10 million in state funding that was approved in the 2022 Oregon legislative session.
