Auralyn Concepcion-Murphy brings a rich educational and professional background to her role as NAMC-OR’s new marketing and communications coordinator. She earned a bachelor’s degree in multimedia arts, a master’s degree in international business, and a certificate in design communication arts.

Concepcion-Murphy established her career in graphic design in advertising, film and TV for start-ups and nonprofits organizations. This included working as a freelance graphic designer for the Urban League of Portland, supporting its campaigns, outreach, programs and fundraising events.

Her work as a freelance graphic designer and prop maker for various TV shows involved creating graphics such as posters, vehicle wraps, labels, logos and book covers. She also designed and created puppets.

As a freelance graphic designer for the Oregon Zoo, Concepcion-Murphy created, designed and updated its marketing collaterals. She also worked on the zoo’s teen programs, and redesigned, prototyped and brought the Zoo Teen ideas to life. These are still in use today at the Oregon Zoo Education Center.

Concepcion-Murphy explained that she learned about NAMC-OR through Jarrelle Marshall while working on a project for the Urban League of Portland.

What interested you about working with NAMC-OR?
After working for various companies, from advertising to start-ups to nonprofits, I have seen firsthand how and why graphic design is vital in communicating the company’s mission. I want to apply my knowledge, skills and experience to help empower people of color to achieve better quality of life.

What are your goals in this new role?
My goal is to create a strong brand for NAMC-OR and help bring out its mission to support BIPOC- and minority-owned businesses. As a marketing communications coordinator, my main responsibility will be to create a consistent voice among social media platforms and help develop marketing strategies.

Is there anything else you would like to share with NAMC-OR’s members?
I was born and raised in the Philippines, where I lived until college. After that, I moved to Los Angeles looking for my next adventure, and now I’m loving life in Portland.
