7 Oaks Engineering, a COBID-certified, woman-owned civil engineering firm, has opened in Silverton. Its focus is on land development services in Oregon, Washington and California.
Kim Johnson started the company in 2022, aiming to provide design services for developers and architects with commercial, industrial, multifamily and agricultural projects.
While Johnson is currently the sole engineer at 7 Oaks Engineering, she is actively looking to add engineers to the staff.
鈥淓ach year the percentage of women in the industry does increase but the fact is there鈥檚 still too few females in the industry, let alone female ownership,鈥 she stated in a press release.
Johnson is hoping to change that by demonstrating to other young woman civil engineers that firm ownership is possible.
Most of 7 Oaks Engineering鈥檚 projects are private, although the firm also handles public projects. Currently, it鈥檚 working on an apartment complex redevelopment in Silverton, a convenience store with a drive-thru and gas station in Portland that is in design, and a coffee shop and restaurant development in Salem that is in the entitlement stage.
