Harry Seabold, co-founder and president of Seabold Construction, was known for his trust in his team, his inquisitiveness and his curiosity, according to co-workers. He was a mentor, leader and a friend 鈥� always there to lend an ear, they said.

. He had been working on the company鈥檚 long-term succession plan for the past three or four years, while Vice President Kevin Owens and financial manager Hailey Owens led day-to-day operations.

Owens had known Seabold since middle school and said he was always a mentor to him. The two were very close, Owens said.

鈥淭he best part about Harry is he had a lot of trust in everybody, really down to their core, that they were making the best decisions for the company,鈥� said Mark Atteridge, director of project development for Seabold Construction.

Seabold and his father, Harry C. Seabold, and brother, Steve Seabold, formed their construction company in 1984. The elder Seabold died a few years later. Then, when Steve Seabold retired in 2015, Harry Seabold assumed full ownership of the company and became president.

As a leader, Seabold was generally curious and liked to talk with people about their projects, but he also wanted the team to have the satisfaction of making decisions, Atteridge said. Seabold simply provided historical knowledge.

Seabold鈥檚 strategic leadership positioned Seabold Construction as a trusted partner for many long-term clients, including its first 鈥� Freightliner (now Daimler).

Seabold was in the construction and development industry for his entire life, Atteridge said. Many of his projects focused on senior living facilities, multifamily/mixed-use buildings, and affordable housing developments.

Outside of the company, Seabold even mentored subcontractor partner friends who sought to grow their businesses.

鈥淚n addition to Harry lending an ear, he also helped financially support some of those companies that were starting up,鈥� Atteridge said.

Seabold guided and supported framing company Timberland Inc., Atteridge said, and even gave the firm projects that at the time were maybe bigger than what they were typically used to, he added. Seabold also mentored Portland Commercial Coatings, providing guidance and financial support, Atteridge said.

Seabold received the 91视频鈥檚 ICON award in 2021. Seabold Construction team members, architects and others outside the company had to sneak around to submit the nomination, Atteridge said, because Seabold did not feel the need to be in the spotlight.

鈥淵ou could tell he was surprised and honored with receiving the award,鈥� Atteridge said.

A memorial service will take place Sunday at 2 p.m. at Walters Cultural Arts Center, at 527 E. Main St. in Hillsboro.
