Knife River Corporation has earned the prestigious Liberty Mutual Risk Management Excellence Award. It recognizes the unique efforts at the Knife River Training Center in Albany to promote safety in the construction industry.

Liberty Mutual has awarded fewer than 20 such awards in its 100-plus year history, according to its website.

The Knife River Training Center opened in spring 2022. It is designed to help people build skills and advance their careers by providing them a classroom education accompanied by hands-on experience. Classes include commercial driver’s license (CDL) training and equipment operation in real-world settings, but behind a closed gate and away from live traffic.

The facility features an 80,000-square-foot, temperature-controlled dome; an attached 16,000-square-foot classroom building; and an outdoor training facility on 230 acres. Classes are open to not only Knife River employees, but also the public and other companies that want to help their own employees advance in their careers. Training is offered in heavy equipment operations, truck driving, leadership development, and facilitator training.
