Design-builder, developer and engineering services provider Mortenson has appointed Mike Clifford as vice president and general manager of its Portland office. Dan Mehls, who previously filled that role, will oversee the Minneapolis-based company鈥檚 new office in Nashville, Tennessee.

Mehls, who has held various leadership positions during 35 years with Mortenson, will transition to the Nashville market over the coming months.

Clifford stepped into his new role earlier this year. He joined the company鈥檚 Seattle office in 2000 and then became the first team member in Portland in 2009, eventually advancing to vice president of operations.

鈥淔or me, it鈥檚 a pretty natural transition,鈥 Clifford said of his promotion, which he considers a continuity of leadership. 鈥淥ver the years, I鈥檝e been involved in the core of the business.鈥

Clifford worked alongside Mehls on Mortenson projects including the Hyatt Regency Portland at the Oregon Convention Center, Providence Health 鈥 Reed鈥檚 Crossing, and Portland Community College鈥檚 Oregon Manufacturing Innovation Center.

Mortenson鈥檚 current projects include the Portland Art Museum renovation and expansion, the Hillsboro Hops鈥 new ballpark, and a new building for Clark College in Vancouver, Washington.

鈥淥ur Portland office is in a strong position right now, and I know that Mike and other long-term leaders will continue to build on the successes that we worked hard to create here,鈥 Mehls stated in a press release. 鈥淭his is a very natural transition, and I am personally excited for Mike and the entire leadership team.鈥

Mortenson is committed to Portland and Southwest Washington, Clifford said. Recently, the office gained Kyle Paulsen as director of operations to oversee delivery of all projects and Damon Jeffrey as design phase director to oversee design phase management 鈥 including work with designers to help increase projects鈥 value and certainty.

The firm鈥檚 Portland office has 150 team members and Clifford believes that number will grow.
