A $200 million Oregon State University project gained unanimous approval from Corvallis’ Historic Resource Commission last week.

The Jen-Hsun and Lori Huang Collaborative Innovation Complex, designed by ZGF Architects, is planned for a site within the 166-acre OSU National Historic District. City officials’ approval was required for the project team to proceed.

The three-story, 150,000-square-foot complex, anticipated to open in 2025, will be at the campus’ northwest corner, near the intersection of Southwest Memorial Place and Monroe Avenue. The facility will employ a NVIDIA supercomputer to support faculty in addressing complex and challenging computational problems and feature an extended reality theater and cyber-physical playground with next-generation robotics.

Weniger Hall, which was facing $70 million of deferred maintenance, will be demolished to make way for the new complex. Funding for the complex is tied to the removal of Weniger Hall, according to OSU. The building was identified as OSU’s highest seismic risk because it’s two structures with no seismic joint in between.

Ground is expected to be broken on the new complex by the end of the year. Andersen Construction is serving as the general contractor.
