Clackamas County鈥檚 new courthouse was recognized by Infrastructure Journal Global as one of its 鈥淒eals of the Year鈥 for 2022.

IJGlobal鈥檚 annual awards celebrate best-in-class transactions and organizations across the international infrastructure and energy sectors. The Clackamas County courthouse project won the social infrastructure category for the Americas.

The courthouse was designed by Clackamas Progress Partners (CPP) 鈥 formerly Fengate PCL Progress Partners. The public-private partnership is led by Fengate with DLR Group as design architect and design-build contractor PCL Construction Services.

A growing population and new sustainability targets created an urgent need for Clackamas County to replace its courthouse. An innovative solution won CPP the contract to build a courthouse able to serve the county and meet all Oregon Judicial Department requirements.

Crucial elements will include extensive daylighting, stress-reducing materials, and access that will promote collaboration between departments to streamline the judicial process. DLR Group鈥檚 selections for materials, systems and energy efficiency have the project on track to attain a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design version 4.1 gold rating. That will help the county pursue its goal of being carbon neutral in operations by 2050. The building also will comply with the Oregon Green Energy Technology program鈥檚 goal of producing at least 25 percent of the building鈥檚 energy on-site.

Construction of the courthouse will provide a boost to the local economy without any new taxes. The project will create hundreds of local jobs with competitive wages and provide opportunities for local labor.
