Schnitzer Steel Industries, a leader in metals recycling, has been named to the third annual TIME100 Most Influential Companies list. Rankings are given to companies that are making an extraordinary impact around the world.

According to the TIME article, Schnitzer has reduced greenhouse-gas emissions by 24 percent since 2019, and last year the company introduced net-zero-carbon GRN Steel products.

TIME solicited nominations from its global network of contributors and correspondents as well as from outside experts to form its list. Editors evaluated nominees on impact, innovation, ambition, and success.

Earlier this year, Schnitzer Steel Industries was named the Most Sustainable Company in the World by Corporate Knights and was recognized by Ethisphere as one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies for the ninth consecutive year.

Schnitzer Steel Industries was founded in 1906 in Portland. It is one of the largest manufacturers and exporters of recycled metal products in North America with facilities in 25 states, Puerto Rico, and Western Canada.
