Bill Seider has retired from Eugene-based PIVOT Architecture after spending 49 years designing buildings for Lane County.

In June 1974, Seider joined Wilson and Associates Architecture and Engineering as a new apprentice. His first projects were an addition to Yoncalla Elementary School and the new Bohemia Elementary School in Cottage Grove. He earned his Oregon architecture license in 1977 and became a partner in the firm in 1980.

Since being founded in 1956, the firm has grown and changed its name several times. It became PIVOT Architecture in 2007. Ten years later, after transitioning away from service as a partner, Seider embraced his senior architect position at PIVOT, working on selected projects including Eugene’s new YMCA facility, which is nearing completion.

Seider worked with hundreds of clients, but none more so than Lane County; he led more than 400 projects for the county over his career. He also designed several post office buildings in Salem and Eugene.

Seider has been involved with the American Institute of Architects (AIA) for more than 50 years, beginning with the student chapter at Oklahoma State University, where he served as president.

He served on the AIA’s national board of directors representing the Northwest and Pacific region from 2012 to 2014. He also served as the local AIA chapter president in 1991, on the AIA National Continuing Education Committee for 14 years, and on several other committees. He served on the Oregon State Board of Architect Examiners from 1999 to 2007.

In 2013, Seider was elevated to the AIA’s prestigious College of Fellows in recognition of his contributions in the areas of continuing education, architecture license renewal and membership renewal.
