Portland-based design consultancy sparks+sullivan received two International Design Excellence Awards (IDEAs) for work involving Portland’s Washington Park and Portland International Airport.

The , a strategic experience plan, won a gold award in the design strategy category. The project integrated human-centered research and design thinking to create a people-first operations strategy for Explore Washington Park, which manages access and visitor experience in the park. The project included close collaboration with the Oregon Zoo, Portland Japanese Garden, Hoyt Arboretum, World Forestry Center, Portland Parks & Recreation, TriMet and Travel Portland.

The , a brand identity and experience strategy for PDX Next, garnered a silver award in the branding category. The brand system helps guide travelers and employees through several disruptive, multiyear construction projects at the airport with humor, passion and creativity.

The projects were among more than 2,000 entries.

IDEA is organized every year by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA). This was the 43rd year for IDEA, according to the organization’s website. Originally founded to recognize exceptional achievement in industrial design, the program has since grown to highlight design in many connected disciplines, including design strategy, branding, digital interaction, environments, social impact and more.
