The first Porsche auto studio in the U.S. is now open in the Pearl District.
Porsche Studio Portland is located at 1432 N.W. Johnson St. in a renovated industrial warehouse. The two-story studio is approximately 12,920 square feet, a Porsche press release states.
LRS Architects designed the studio for owner Sunset Imports. The project team also included civil engineer DOWL, structural engineer IMEG and general contractor Walen Construction.
鈥淭he Porsche Studio is designed to be a unique destination for Porsche lovers in Portland and across the region, a dynamic venue that feels more like a modern art gallery and community space than a showroom,鈥 LRS Architects senior principal Steve Mileham stated in an email. 鈥淲e are the first architectural firm in the U.S. to work with Porsche鈥檚 designers to realize this studio concept in the United States.”
The focus is an exhibition space that puts Porsche鈥檚 designs and racing history on display. The architecture is inspired by the curves, lines, shapes and colors expressed in Porsche vehicles combined with their innovative approach to design and technology, Mileham stated.
鈥淚t was聽important for our team to capture聽those iconic forms and details while featuring聽local materials and products,鈥 he stated. 鈥淭he result聽is a beautifully crafted exhibition space that celebrates Porsche鈥檚 history and brand.鈥
Inspiration for materials came from both the Pacific Northwest and Porsche鈥檚 international studios. Materials include Italian terrazzo floor tiles, hand-finished walnut wall panels, and a custom-designed wine and espresso bar that includes locally crafted ceramic tile.
A multipurpose room with a garage provides flexibility to accommodate hands-on workshops and classes as well as lectures, screenings and music performances. A curated library, decorated with a collection of vintage roads maps, offers resources for planning trips and gatherings.
The project was completed in June.
