VLMK Engineering + Design has announced a leadership transition.

After serving as VLMK’s president for 21 years, Greg Blefgen will transition into an advisory role on the firm’s board of directors. Chris Palmateer will become VLMK’s new president.

Blefgen joined VLMK in 1989 after working with the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers. In 2002, when founder Fred Van Domelen retired, Blefgen became the company’s leader. During that time, VLMK expanded and refined its services within the industrial development community, increased staff to 44 people across three offices in three states, and oversaw a rebrand from VLMK Consulting Engineers to VLMK Engineering + Design.

Palmateer is a longtime partner and board member with a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the industry, VLMK stated in a press release. After joining the firm in 1995, he began providing structural engineering designs for a wide array of projects. It did not take long for Palmateer to move to VLMK’s prime industrial team, the firm stated. The move has allowed him to collaborate with many of the firm’s largest clients and for its biggest projects.

VLMK is headquartered in Portland, but also has offices in Vancouver, Washington, and Phoenix, Arizona. It’s licensed to provide consulting engineering services in 35 states.
