A new mural, inspired by Portland hot spots, now adorns the exterior of the parking garage at the corner of Southwest Fourth Avenue and Ankeny Street in downtown Portland.

A formal event unveiling the mural is scheduled for noon on Dec. 12. The muralists will be joined by representatives of Unico Properties, Portland Street Art Alliance, and the city of Portland. The public is welcome.

The 120-foot-long mural, titled 鈥淩adiance,鈥� is the vision of artist duo KSRA聽and聽They Drift. They recently relocated to Portland from Seattle and were excited for the chance to paint this statement piece in their new hometown, a press release states.

The mural聽was sponsored and supported by U.S. Bancorp Tower owner Unico Properties LLC.

Drawing inspiration from local commercial and public art, 鈥淩adiance鈥� features neon signs from neighborhood locales interspersed with iconic Portland statuary. The neon signs were painted by KSRA, who creates miniature neon signs in a mixed-media diorama style both as a gallery artist and at Laika Studios. The statue images were created by They Drift (also known as Carlos Aguilar), who also is an abstract portrait artist.

The mural pays homage to: Kelly鈥檚 Olympian, Portland鈥檚 third oldest continuously operated bar; the Chinatown Gateway, at the entrance of Old Town Chinatown; the retired Made in Oregon neon sign; Skidmore Fountain; the Portland Outdoor Store neon sign; Waterfront Park鈥檚 neon rose; Raymond Kaskey鈥檚 Portlandia statue; the Voodoo Doughnut neon sign; and the Palms Motor Hotel neon sign.
