Two new members are poised to join the . The on Wednesday appointed Christopher Jose 鈥淗ugo鈥� Hamblin-Agosto and Hannah Bronfman to the group.

The seven-member commission provides leadership and expertise on maintaining and enhancing the city鈥檚 historic and architectural heritage, Mayor Ted Wheeler states in a staff report. The commission reviews new development within historic districts and major alterations to historic resources.

Commissioner Kristen Minor鈥檚 second full term will expire Friday, Dec. 8, and Matthew Roman鈥檚 second full term will expire Jan. 5, 2024. Their replacements will each serve four-year terms, with Hamblin-Agosto filling an urban planner position from Dec. 9, 2023 to Dec. 8, 2027 and Bronfman filling a public-at-large position from Jan. 5, 2024 to Jan. 4, 2028.

Hamblin-Agosto is a planner for the city of Sherwood. He is interested in uplifting the history of the Latino community in Multnomah County. He鈥檚 eager to ensure preservation of social equity, historical depth, and community value. He also hopes to include buildings constructed in the 1970s and 1980s into the commission鈥檚 narrative.

鈥淚 definitely think it鈥檚 important to preserve the knowledge and history of our community before they鈥檙e lost,鈥� Hamblin-Agosto said.

Bronfman is a sustainability professional who works in design and construction. She studies the life cycles of buildings, including historic ones. Bronfman recently returned to Oregon after working for 15 years in New York City.

鈥淚鈥檓 excited to kind of bring that illustrious experience working in a really complex urban landscape but also with the idea of environmental sustainability,鈥� she said.
