A weekly list of highlights from commercial land use review activity in Portland by the Bureau of Development Services in the prior week.

Early assistance – pending

Applicant: Matt Leavitt of Skylab Architecture
Owner: Sisters of the Road

Plans call for seismic, roof and facade upgrades to the existing 9,700-square-foot 1923 building. This is a non-contributing resource in the new Chinatown /​ Japantown Historic District.


Type 2 procedure (historic resource review) – pending 
Address: 615 S. Palatine Hill Road
Applicant: Maya Foty of Architectural Resources Group
Owner: Lewis & Clark College 

Plans call for the garden retaining walls to be reinforced, the bathhouse to be re-roofed with tile to match the historic condition, and the beam connections removed, and the gutter and fascia replaced, the remaining arbor columns removed, and the pool infilled.


Type 2 procedure (historic resource review) – pending 
Address: 638 SW 5th Ave.
Applicants: Mike Coyle of Faster
Owner: Pegg Investment Co. 

Plans call for the replacement of existing glazing with new security glass and a new storefront frame in modified locations to matching existing design approach, entry vestibule for safety and loss prevention to match existing storefront entry language, new signage, restored and preserved terra-cotta panels and new paint at existing painted features.

Address: 2170 NW Raleigh St.
Applicant: Michelle Schulz of GBD Architects
Owner: Hancock Eat Slabtown Marketplace LLC

Plans call for adding a roof deck for the brewery to the existing warehouse building, covered under the Con-Way Masterplan. A previous land use was approved for a similar proposal. This proposes a slightly larger deck area and two possible locations for egress stairs. An adjustment was requested to the size limitation on retail sales and service uses.
