The recently closed temporarily to allow construction of bond-funded improvements. The branch is at 1520 N.E. Village St. in Fairview.

The project team includes architect Hennebery Eddy Architects, structural engineer James G. Pierson Inc., electrical engineer Landis Consulting, and general contractor Swinerton with GSI Builders Inc. as a Certification Office for Business Inclusion and Diversity (COBID) partner.

New library features will include improved shelf heights to create more space for people and better sight lines; a children’s area with new, movable furniture; new reading room chairs, as well as new lounge chairs in the adult area; a SmartShelf system to facilitate check-in of materials when placed on shelves; a tech bar for people to use the copy machine, scanner and computers; lightweight meeting room chairs; fresh paint; and new carpet.

The total project cost is $890,789. Construction is scheduled to begin Feb. 12. The library will reopen in the spring or summer.

Multnomah County Library is working to renovate, expand or build new library spaces with money from a bond approved by voters in 2020. This year, several libraries will be built or expanded, and others will be refreshed.

New buildings include Holgate Library (completion expected this summer), Northwest Library (completion expected in summer 2025), and East County Library (completion expected in fall 2025).

Renovations include Midland Library (completion expected this summer), North Portland Library (completion expected this fall), Albina Library (completion expected in spring 2025), and Belmont Library and St. Johns Library (completion of both expected in winter 2025/2026).

The Fairview-Columbia Library project is one of 11 refreshments. Among the others, the Gregory Heights Library recently reopened, and the Capitol Hill Library and Central Library are set to follow suit. Other projects are in the works.
