Design studio Mayer/Reed Inc. has signed a 10-year lease for office space in the Power + Light Building in downtown Portland.
Since 1977, the firm has operated at 319 S.W. Washington St., within walking distance of clients, business services, public transportation, and eateries. Following disruption from the COVID pandemic, social justice issues, and open drug use, owners Kathy Fry, Jeramie Shane and Shannon Simms considered relocating Mayer/Reed outside of the downtown core to ensure employees鈥 safety, the firm stated in a press release.
Mayer/Reed leadership engaged employees in the decision-making process for the new office location. The firm prioritized a safe, walkable location with multimodal access and affordable food options nearby.
鈥淯ltimately, we determined downtown is still the place to be,鈥 Shane, a principal landscape architect, stated in the release.
Mayer/Reed will move into its new space at 920 S.W. Sixth Ave. in early summer following construction of a full tenant improvement.
鈥淭he space we selected is on the transit mall 鈥 a place we helped design,鈥 Simms, an associate principal and landscape architect, stated. 鈥淚t has a stop just feet from the front door, giving employees ideal access to bus and light rail.鈥
The building also has bike and locker rooms 鈥 key amenities, Simms stated, for employees who commute via bicycle.
