A double-block, 330,000-square-foot, mixed-use development has opened on waterfront property in Vancouver, Washington.

Terminal 1 Block A & C was designed by West of West,聽along with聽executive architect DLR Group, and developed by Lincoln Property Company. The project team also includes civil engineer Mackenzie, structural engineer KPFF, landscape architect PLACE, electrical engineer Cascade Electrical, and general contractor Robertson & Olson Construction of Camas, Washington.

The development is a revitalization of 10 acres of Port of Vancouver USA property. It includes multifamily units, office space, and retail space. There is a landscaped, elevated public terrace, and multiple roof terraces, a press release states. The site has an AC Hotel by Marriott, a trail and a public gathering space. Future enhancements will include a new dock and a public market.

The Block A & C development includes two structures 鈥� one nine stories, and one 10 stories 鈥� perched atop a shared landscaped platform. The two stories of retail, social stairs, and covered balconies create opportunities for landscaped viewpoints with available seating.

Both buildings have a custom, folded and corrugated metal panel system that catches sunlight depending on which way panels face. These same perforated metal panels conceal portions of the platform, generating an interplay of light and texture across the building鈥檚 surface, the design team stated in the press release.

Restaurants and ground-level retail spaces present social opportunities outside offices and residences.

The large public terrace is nicknamed 鈥淭he Launch,鈥� and rests between the two buildings, forming a vantage point where visitors can look south across the Columbia River or north toward downtown Vancouver. A terraced stairway connects the lower-level and upper-level pedestrian zones, creating a public promenade where visitors can sit and enjoy panoramic views.
