With a career spanning 37 years, including 34 in Portland, Dan Purgiel has left a lasting impact on the architecture industry and LRS Architects. As principal emeritus at LRS, Purgiel has been instrumental in driving design innovation, enhancing operational efficiency, and elevating the firm to one of Oregon’s top three architectural practices.

Purgiel’s leadership has been pivotal in advancing senior living architecture, exemplified by projects like Terwilliger Plaza, the largest Passive House senior living project in the United States. His work blends decades of experience with forward-thinking design to address the evolving needs of senior communities. In 2015, he contributed to revising the national building code for assisted living facilities, aligning regulations with practical requirements.

Within LRS, Purgiel transformed operational processes by developing standardized project management templates and guidelines, ensuring consistency and quality across the firm’s portfolio.
