As she nears semi-retirement, Faye Burch can look back on an illustrious career in which she made a difference in hundreds of lives and continued to build her family鈥檚 legacy of civil rights, economic development and social change.
Through her consulting company and as a board member for the Professional Business Development Group (PBDG), Burch has guided many small, DMWESB and COBID-certified businesses to large construction projects that have provided invaluable experience and connections.
Among them, the Multnomah County Central Courthouse. With Hoffman Construction as the general contractor, the project achieved 34 percent participation from businesses owned by minorities, women, service-disabled veterans and emerging small businesses. The contracts awarded to those firms totaled more than $73 million.
Burch said similar opportunities are happening with the Bull Run Filtration Project, which designates 34 percent of hard construction costs going to COBID-certified contractors.
One of her first projects was to increase diversity in the team working on TriMet鈥檚 Interstate MAX line. She was involved in several subsequent TriMet projects and, on the Portland-Milwaukie Orange Line, helped ensure that more than $100 million worth of work was awarded to minority subcontractors.
Maurice Rahming, PBDG鈥檚 chair, said that over three decades Burch has created countless opportunities, not just in economic terms but by tirelessly championing the voices and needs of contractors and workers alike. 鈥淗er advocacy goes beyond mere words. Faye has truly put our community on her shoulders, ensuring that progress and opportunity are accessible to all.鈥
In 2019, Burch was honored as the Gladys McCoy Lifetime Achievement Award winner.
