With more than 34 years of industry experience, including 26 at Alliant Systems, Sean Murray, engineering manager and partner, has established himself as a trailblazer, mentor and advocate in the mechanical construction industry. Renowned for his expertise and innovation, Murray has served as Engineer of Record for iconic regional projects such as the Portland Timbers Training Center, Hillsboro Hops Stadium and the Olympic Mills Commerce Center, showcasing his ability to deliver cutting-edge solutions for a wide range of high-profile clients.

Murray’s leadership has been critical to Alliant Systems’ expansion across the Pacific Northwest. He spearheaded the firm’s adoption of advanced technologies such as Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Virtual Design and Construction (VDC), enhancing its design and construction capabilities to meet evolving industry demands. In addition to driving technological advancements, Murray has influenced key business decisions, including material and equipment selection, operational processes and marketing strategies, reinforcing his role as a leader integral to the company’s success.

His commitment to sustainability and innovation is evident in projects like the BioMass boiler installation at Camp Umatilla. The unique wood pellet boiler system services 11 buildings and supports the Army’s Net Zero goals, delivering energy savings of 7,030 MMBTU annually and reducing operating costs by 25 percent. Murray also has played a pivotal role in shaping Alliant’s progressive workplace culture. His focus on collaboration, work-life balance and excellence has helped Alliant earn recognition as one of Oregon’s best mid-size companies to work for for four consecutive years.

Beyond his work at Alliant, Murray is a dedicated mentor and community advocate. He actively supports organizations like American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE), Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) and the ACE Mentorship Program. His leadership on projects like the Springfield Public Schools mechanical upgrades ensured that federal funds were effectively allocated to improve 18 school facilities, benefiting students, staff, and the broader community.
