Steve Wood, vice president at Stacy and Witbeck, has spent 25 years shaping the civil construction industry with expertise, leadership, and a deep commitment to community building. A graduate of an engineering program with extensive on-the-job training, Wood has successfully managed 15 years of TriMet and Sound Transit projects, providing vital transportation options for communities across the Pacific Northwest.

Wood’s impact extends beyond project delivery. His dedication to mentoring Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (DBEs) has been transformative, helping companies such as Faison Construction, Valley Growers Nursery and Landscape, and Pacificmark Construction grow their operations. Through personalized guidance, Wood has enabled these firms to become bondable and competitive, earning him a reputation as a mentor and advocate for inclusive growth.

At Stacy and Witbeck, Wood has driven positive change by fostering a culture of learning, internal promotion and mentorship. He equips his team with the tools needed to navigate complex processes, ensuring project success while maintaining strong relationships with DBE trade groups, ultimately fostering an environment of growth, collaboration and empowerment across the organization.

Wood’s contributions to the community are equally significant. He led the construction of an accessibility ramp for the historic Billy Webb Elks Lodge, a Black-led organization in Northeast Portland, and volunteers regularly for community projects such as block cleanups and neighborhood improvement initiatives. In a notable act of civic responsibility, Wood facilitated the leasing of Stacy and Witbeck’s Southeast Portland office for use as a homeless shelter, prioritizing community needs over convenience.

The Professional Business Development Group (PBDG) Board of Directors unanimously nominated Wood for a 91ÊÓƵ Icon Award for his wide-ranging contributions to the industry and community.
