As a kid, Hannah Rusnac loved artistic endeavors such as building large Lego creations. 鈥淚n high school, I explored design and architectural drafting classes, which confirmed that I wanted to pursue my interests as a career,鈥� she said.

Rusnac joined Holst Architecture with a background in academic architecture, interior design, sustainability and graduate-level research. Her knowledge of building science and energy modeling informs every aspect of her work, ultimately raising the level of sustainable design within Holst鈥檚 portfolio.

鈥淗annah says 鈥榶es鈥� to every challenge presented to her and is skilled at accomplishing big goals while paying attention to minute details,鈥� said Dave Otte, Holst principal and owner. 鈥淪he is an invaluable teammate and is consistently requested by projects throughout the office for her assistance and guidance.鈥�

Most recently, she put her skills to the test on two projects with advanced sustainability goals. She designed a large multifamily housing building in Boise, Idaho, to meet rigorous Passive House goals, and worked on the new East County Library project, which seeks to achieve Net Zero energy and uses cross-laminated timber construction.

For more than a year, Rusnac has been leading Holst鈥檚 pro bono work designing a new office and center of operations for Street Roots. The Portland nonprofit publishes a weekly social justice newspaper sold by people experiencing homelessness and poverty to earn an income.
