Hannah Simpson studied biology and chemistry in college, but was drawn to construction as a promising career in an industry that will never be obsolete.

鈥淲e will always need to fix old buildings and build new ones, and the technology to do so is continuously evolving,鈥� she said. 鈥淚 also love to learn and it was a new industry for me, so I started from ground zero. Years later and I still learn every day. I don鈥檛 think that will ever stop in this ever-changing industry.鈥�

She has taken on multiple large renovations on college campuses, thriving amid tight timelines while juggling the evolving world of construction material delays and shortages. Simpson also helped Merit implement an app that improves communication between the office and the field. With their tablet or smartphone, field personnel can instantly share daily reports, material requests, discipline reports and other documentation with the office or general contractor.

鈥淗annah has continued to impress seasoned general contractors with her ability to handle all aspects of project management. She brings a new perspective to the old way of doing things,鈥� said Corbett Clark, vice president of Oregon operations.

With a special place in her heart for at-risk youth, Simpson mentors them through a program called No Solo Existen. She also talks with students at North Salem High School and Salem Academy about the advantages and opportunities a career in the skilled trades can offer.
