As the largest certified WBE/DBE architecture firm in Oregon, Holst Architecture is “committed to using business as a force for good.” In 2018, Holst obtained JUST certification, which evaluates organizations through a social justice lens. Last year, the company signed the NOMA Call-to-Action Pledge – a guideline for improving support for BIPOC individuals in the organization. And in May 2023, Holst became a certified B Corporation.

The Portland-based firm has operated for 32 years and now has 51 employees. Two of the four co-owners are women: Kim Wilson and Renée Strand. They continue to contend for change.

“A challenge that remains in our industry is for women in ownership and leadership to be trusted and taken seriously,” the firm states. “While much progress has been made in recent years, women still encounter instances where they are being silenced and not given the same respect as their male counterparts.”
