Though real estate development has historically been a male-dominated industry, Shortstack Housing鈥檚 co-owners believe there is a shift taking place in Oregon in which women are being recognized as leaders.
鈥淲omen are conditioned to develop both feminine and masculine leadership styles, which is an asset for development 鈥 a field that requires both an intuitive, empathetic approach and competitive, action-oriented approach,鈥 the firm states.
Portland-based Jessy Ledesma of HomeWork Development and Anna Mackay of Sister City joined forces to launch Shortstack Housing four years ago. The replicable workforce housing development platform is advancing projects. Shortstack Mississippi (36 affordable rental homes) is under construction. Ground will be broken on Shortstack Milwaukie (15 affordable for-sale homes, in a collaboration with Pround Ground) next summer. Then Shortstack Belmont (35 affordable rental homes) will follow.
Ledesma and Mackay appreciate being able to set an example.
鈥淭his is only one model though,鈥 they say, 鈥渁nd we need more!鈥
