In-N-Out hamburgers, fries and more may soon be served in Portland.

The legendary California restaurateur applied for an early assistance meeting with the city of Portland on Thursday to discuss a vacant parcel at 11420 N.E. Holman St., at the intersection with Northeast Airport Way.

鈥淭he proposed project involves the development of an In-N-Out Burger quick-service restaurant with drive-thru service,鈥� the Portland Permitting & Development notice stated.

In-N-Out鈥檚 proposal also calls for 61 parking spaces, the maximum allowed, and a drive-thru lane to accommodate 31 vehicles with on-site traffic circulation.

Traffic is likely to be a key issue for the burger restaurant. The opening of a location at Keizer Station in December 2019 was accompanied by long backups on Interstate 5. The proposed Northeast Portland location is close to Interstate 205.

“While we are exploring an opportunity in the city of Portland, we are too early in our pre-application process to provide any specific details,” stated Mike Abbate, In-N-Out’s vice president of store development, in an email Monday. “We believe Portland is a beautiful city and hope to be there in the future, but we don鈥檛 have anything to report at this time.”

In-N-Out indicated in its early assistance application that it also seeks clarity on the city鈥檚 tree preservation policies and stormwater management regulations.

The permit activity was first noted on social media by Iain Mackenzie, a Portland designer who closely tracks real estate development.
