Hampton Lumber is partnering with Girls Build to expand its summer camp program for girls ages 8-15 by adding weekend workshops this winter for girls and young women ages 14-18.
Since 2018, Hampton Lumber has supported Girls Build鈥檚 weeklong summer camps in Warrenton, Tillamook and Willamina/Sheridan. The camps provide hundreds of girls with hands-on opportunities to build skills and confidence in the trades. The camps are taught by female instructors and can accommodate up to 40 participants. To ensure accessibility, Hampton Lumber also provides scholarships for girls who may face financial barriers.
As with the summer camps, the new weekend workshops aim to inspire and educate participants about career opportunities in their communities while providing hands-on experience in carpentry, electrical work, plumbing and more.
Upcoming weekend workshops will take place Jan. 24-26 in Warrenton, Feb. 21-23 in Tillamook, and March 14-16 in Sheridan. Each workshop will include 14 hours of class time over the weekend, with two hours on Friday night, eight hours on Saturday, and four hours on Sunday. Each workshop is limited to 20 participants.
鈥淥ur partnership with Girls Build is a fantastic opportunity to expand access to educational programs that empower young women to explore careers in the trades and develop practical skills that will benefit them for years to come,鈥 Kristin Rasmussen, Hampton Lumber director of public affairs and communications, stated in a news release. 鈥淲e鈥檙e thrilled to be able to offer new opportunities for older girls and young women interested in continuing to build their skills.鈥
Hampton Lumber will continue to sponsor weeklong Girls Build summer camps for girls ages 8-15 this summer: Aug. 4-8 in Sheridan, Aug. 11-15 in Tillamook, and Aug. 18-22 in Warrenton.
