Tim Wybenga has spent more than three decades shaping the built environment, 21 of those as principal at TVA Architects Inc. where he leads projects that demonstrate his commitment to thoughtful, user-focused design across diverse building types.

Wybenga began his architectural education at the University of Cincinnati College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning and completed his studies at the University of Oregon. His career has centered on the principle that thoughtful architecture can create buildings of significance while using resources responsibly.

At TVA, Wybenga has overseen a wide-ranging portfolio that includes large-scale multi-family and mixed-use developments, trauma-informed mental and behavioral health facilities, corporate headquarters, civic and educational buildings, and healthcare environments. Across these varied project types, he collaborates with TVA’s team and consultants to deliver design that works from the inside out, prioritizing the needs of building users.

Beyond individual projects, Wybenga has helped shape TVA’s organizational culture. Together with his partners Mandy Butler and Pam Saftler, he has fostered a work environment built on trust, flexibility and professionalism. The leadership team has implemented people-first office policies including flexible work hours, discretionary time off, and a hybrid work environment, demonstrating that design excellence and work-life balance can coexist.

Wybenga has consistently applied his professional expertise to serve organizations working to make a difference in the community. He served for multiple years on Trillium Family Services’ Facilities Improvement Group and as an advisor to the Children’s Cancer Association, helping each organization envision its future while guiding practical decisions around facilities and operations. He currently serves on the board of directors for St. Mary’s Academy, collaborating with leaders who believe in the transformative power of women’s education.

Throughout his career, Wybenga has maintained that design can be beautiful while remaining logical, constructible and sustainable. He brings this perspective to every project through collaboration and mutual respect for the contractors, engineers and architects who help make each design possible. His approach reflects a fundamental belief that architecture should balance aesthetic achievement with practical considerations and responsible resource use, creating buildings that serve their communities effectively while standing as works of thoughtful design.

Projects Wybenga has been involved with include The Sutton Apartment Tower in Portland; the Center for Excellence in Engineering and Technology – Oregon Institute of Technology, Klamath Falls; Rivermark Community Credit Union Headquarters in Oregon City; and the Wind Mountain Pavilion in Goldendale, Washington.
