Kurt Schultz, principal at SERA Architects, has spent four decades shaping the urban landscape of Portland and beyond through his focus on mixed-use development and sustainable design.

Schultz earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Oregon before embarking on a 40-year career in the architecture, engineering and construction industry. His work has centered on creating vibrant, livable urban spaces that balance density with quality of life.

At SERA Architects, Schultz founded the firm鈥檚 multi-family housing studio with an emphasis on urban mixed-use projects. This initiative has become a cornerstone of the firm鈥檚 practice, focusing on developments that integrate residential, commercial and public spaces in Portland鈥檚 urban core and the downtown areas of surrounding suburbs.

Under Schultz鈥檚 leadership, SERA Architects has expanded both its portfolio and geographic footprint. He recently led projects in California and Washington, broadening the firm鈥檚 presence beyond Oregon and demonstrating the scalability of his urban design approach. Some of Schultz鈥檚 projects include The Gossamer, a 12-story, 225,000-square-foot apartment building that is LEED Gold certified; Sawbuck, an eight-story, 182-unit apartment building with 12,000 square feet of retail that targeted LEED for Homes Mid-Rise certification; and Saltwood, a 354-unit, 500,000-square-foot housing project that received LEED Multifamily Midrise Gold certification.

Throughout his career, Schultz has remained focused on the intersection of urban density and livability, working to prove that cities can grow while maintaining and enhancing the characteristics that make them desirable places to live and work.
