Empty block in North Portland called the ‘Fremont Forest’

The block between North Fremont and Cook streets resembles a forest more than anything else. The vegetation isn鈥檛 just a layer of grass or a few small plants 鈥� whole trees have grown up inside the space, speaking to years of disuse 鈥� some residents have taken to calling it the "Fremont Forest."

The Lompoc Fifth Quadrant Brewery in North Portland will use a silo to hold up to 60,000 pounds of base malt and increase its beer production capabilities. The unit was installed on the roof because the interior lacked sufficient space.
