The Oregon Department of Transportation is working to shore up an unstable slope on Oregon Route 99E after a heavy basalt rock slide Wednesday closed the road to traffic in both directions south of Oregon City.

A rock slide shut down the southbound lane of traffic on Southwest Macadam Avenue near the Sellwood Bridge Thursday morning as workers from the Oregon Department of Transportation went out to clear the site and assess damage.
